Problems of Unemployment in India
Problems of unemployment in India-
Do you want to know about the problems of unemployment in India? Here I have explained about that and the basic or main reasons behind unemployment.
Employment is the basic need of an individual. God has given us brain and hands and feet and other powers of mind, heart and spirit in order that they may be utilized and we may get self realization. This may be perhaps the aim of our lives. But if we have no work to do,if we don't have proper opportunities to put to use our powers referred to above, many difficulties crop up. In the first place,we can't meet our physical and mental needs; secondly, in the absence of work we shall commit mischief; thirdly, for want of adequate employment opportunities we shall not be able to make moral and spiritual advancement. Thus in a society where the problem of unemployment is acute, there is frustration, crime and stunted personalities.
India is passing through some such sort of situation. The problem of unemployment has become very acute here. Our employment exchanges throughout the country have corrupt people registered who are to be provided work. Besides, there are those, and their numbers run in millions, who do not get themselves registered in employment exchanges.

There are various causes of unemployment in India. The first is the rapidly expanding population. The government finds in difficult to create jobs in proportion to the increase in population. Secondly, our faulty system of education has also bedeviled the problem. While there are millions seeking employment, therebare lots of industries, establishments and institutions which are starving for suitable personnel. We have not yet been able to introduce job oriented education and re-orient education to the needs of industry. Another cause of unemployment is inadequate industrialisation and the slow growth of cottage industries. Proper encouragement is not forthcoming to the cottage industries in view of the vested interests of the big industrialists. Love for white-collar job of our unemployed youth is another cause of unemployment. Our youngmen would fritter away all their energy and resources in search of a regular service , but would not like to start their own ventures.
Even our agricultural graduates would not like to work in the fields and would wait for suitable posts inagricultural institutes or government service. As a matter of fact, our young men are not to blame. The
do not have adequate resources and funds for investment in business. They are untrained and do not have access to training and advisory facilities. All these obstacles go to weaken their entrepreneurship and blunt their desire for starting independent ventures. Yet another cause is the tendency among modern Indian youths to abandon their hereditary professions. In times past the son adopted the procession of his father,so there was no problem of unemployment for him. Then another cause of unemployment is our country is faulty planning. Our planners have failed to give proper attention to man power planning. They have been giving all their attention to resources planning. This is the reason why there is so much of a gap between the substantial assets created as a result of planning and the total happiness generated. Hiw much so ever prosperous a country may become in terms of GNP (Gross National Product) happiness of the citizens will not be ensured if suitable and proper employment opportunities have not been provided. But government alone cannot be blamed for the problem of unemployment. There are very many people in India who do not realize the dignity of work and wait for jobs with little work and more return. Their idleness and disinclination to engage in strenuous work keep them unemployed.
Unemployment problem will have to be solved at the earliest possible. The greatest need is to do proper man power planning. Job-oriented or vocational education will have to be imparted to our young men and women. There is need for rapid industrialization and proper encouragement to cottage industries. Establishment of small scale and cottage industries in large numbers in every village, town and city will throw up innumerable opportunities for employment. Our youth will have to be trained in entrepreneurship and provided guidance for starting their own ventures. Funds should be made available to them for investment on easy terms. Last, but not least, we have to do everything to control the increase in our population. It his gratifying to note that our planners are working in the direction suggested. Many schemes of employment have been launched, the chief of which are TRYSEM(Training of Rural Youth for Self Employment) and NREP
(National Rural Employment Programme),RLEGP (Rural Landless Employment Guarantee Programme),Special Component Plan,Jawahar Rojgar Yojana and Nehru Rojgar Yojana etc. Jawahar Rojgar Yojana has now been converted into Gram Samridhi Yojana. Other rural employment schemes are Annpurna Yojana and Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana. For urbahn people Nehru Rojgar Yojana has now rechristened, from 1997, Swarna Jayanti Shahri Rojgar Yojana. Industrialization of the country is going apace. Government has introduced courses of entrepreneurship in some institutions to encourage the dynamic youth to start their own ventures. Some state governments have introduced vocational courses into the High School and Intermediate educational syllabuses and have provided funds for establishing a variety of trades in the chosen institutions. The plan is to gradually expand the programme and start vocational courses in all the institutions. Over the years satisfactory results have emerged from this measure. The economic liberalization programme is throwing out employment opportunities. Hard working and enthusiastic youth are systematically getting attracted to start their own ventures. Private enterprise has thus got a good potential of employment. Further globalization of the economy will open up still greater opportunities for fruitful and attractive employment to our enterprising and talented youth. In some pockets of India, particularly in the Punjab, Haryana and Western Uttar Pradesh, economic activity is on the peak and unemployment has become practically non-existent. One has to shake off one's lethargy and plunge in the field which is awaiting the arrival of the industrious, enterprising youth.
